Attention Atlanta, GA businesses–
consider leasing web space. I have seen a lot of wonderful small business owners
and workers struggling to hand out fliers, literature, business cards and the like. I have seen a
lot of cars and vans with ads on them. I wonder how many people realize
how beneficial it would be for them to get an Internet presence and
allow a website to work for them? I know…I know…there are a lot of people
who are kinda stuck on the traditional way of doing things. But, there is
a smarter way and a way that will bring more traffic to your business.
And more traffic means more money on your bottom line. I like
helping people and I don’t mind sharing something that is good and works for
me. Imagine leasing a website that attracts traffic to your
business. Imagine having a sight that you do not have to monitor or do
anything to but just allow it to work for you. Imagine getting that sight
for CHEAP! Yes, I say CHEAP! Why pay a whole lot of money for a
sight that does not work for you? A lot of people have websites; but
their websites do not attract traffic. Their websites are just sitting
there and costing them money. I can lease you an already tailored website
that will give you an exclusive market in your niche and it will not cost you
an arm and a leg. I can also tailor your website to say exactly what you want
it to say. To see what I am talking about, click here to see the
niches that are available and view the sites to see what they have to say.
Then imagine your own words with your contact information on that site.
Then contact me and I will help you. I am quite sure that you will like
what you see and I am also quite sure that I can help you grow your business with a site that gets good
results with the search engines. That means more traffic and more $$$$$
on your bottom line. Contact me today and I will be glad to help
you. Have a blessed day and know that God made you to be very
special. This is LeRoy and I want to be a blessing to you. Contact me here.

It's Time to Go Fishing
IT'S TIME TO GO FISHING
I have been living in Georgia for over a year and I am starting to become acclimated to the weather patterns. It is now near the end of July and this July, like last July, is proving to be very hot and muggy. Last year the State of Georgia set a new record for hot days (when the weather was recorded over 90 degrees). This summer just might be close to last summer in sustained temperatures above 90 degrees. We have had more rain this year as compared to last year. Now that I have been living here for awhile, I think I will start doing some serious bank fishing. Since I do not own a boat and really do not care to get out on the water, I think I will find myself a nice lake, pull up a chair in the shade, put some bait on my line, cast it out into the water, and catch some fish.
Since I am supposed to be retired, I spend a lot of time monitoring my internet business, writing, doing yard work, keeping up with church work and the ministry that I am involved in, as well as spending quality time with my precious and lovely wife. Every now and then I still need a little bit of time to go fishing. Catching fish is not all that matters. I think the real important thing about going fishing is going fishing. A lot of people do not have hobbies and most of them continue to work themselves until they are frazzled. If you are interested in doing some old fashioned bank fishing, contact me and perhaps we can hook up. I heard that the catfish are really biting at Lake Lanier. Perhaps I will go there soon. By the way, I do not drink or smoke and I don't like profanity. I just want to spend some quiet time and hear myself think or listen to you if you are not an obsessive talker. Whenever I am fishing, I like to spend time praying and praising the Lord for His goodness and mercy. I like to carry my Bible along also, so that I can catch up on some good reading.
Before I moved to Georgia last year, I spent much of my spare time shooting pool with my buddies at the senior center. I have not even held my cue stick since I move here over a year ago. What's with that? Anyhow, I guess it's time to do some serious fishing. What is serious fishing? It's simply baiting the hook every now and then and casting it out into the water. Most of the time I find myself dozing off. Sometimes I might wake up with a fish on the end of the line. Or at other times, I wake up to realize that I am simply feeding the fish. Anyhow, I find this to be very relaxing and fun.
What's your hobby? What do you like to do to break the monotony of work? Do you exercise or read? I hope you have found your niche and I hope also that it is very rewarding for you. By the way, I would like to invite you to visit my website and let me know what you think about it. If there is anything there that interests you, please feel free to contact me. I am very excited about the new school of ministry that I will open in the Atlanta area in September. If you are interested in studying the Bible with me, please get in touch. Or if you would rather just go out and sit under a tree in the shade and feed the fish with me, let's do that. Please click here to see my website. Thanks for reading my article. May God bless you.

Storms, Storms, Storms in Atlanta
Storms, storms, storms in Atlanta! We surely have been getting plenty of rain in the Atlanta area this week. Looking on the bright side, that's good. My garden has been popping with growing vegetables. I just pulled some zucchini today and my wife is going to makes some zucchini bread. I can't wait until our baby watermelons become giant treats. It is so good to know that the Lord cares about us and sends the rain that we need. Last year's high temperatures and dryness took its toll on all of us. I am rejoicing in getting plenty of rain for all that we need. On the flip side of all these storms is the number of trees that have been downed or uprooted. I know that many people have had to contact tree removal experts to help them out. If you are looking for the number one tree removal expert in the Atlanta area, let me recommend Quincey the Tree Man. I spoke with Quincey earlier this week and he said that he is ready for your call if you need him. To see more about Quincey and to get in touch with him, please click here. I hope you are having a great summer. By the way, if you are in the neighborhood, get in touch with me. Perhaps there might be enough zucchini bread to go around. Have a blessed day.

NEW SCHOOL OF MINISTRY IN ATLANTA
Hi. This is Pastor LeRoy Carter and I would like to announce the grand opening of a new and exciting school of ministry in the Atlanta area. The new school, BACK TO BASICS SCHOOL OF MINISTRY, was established in 2010 and we just recently graduated our first two-year graduates, who earned an Associate Degree of Ministry. BACK TO BASICS SCHOOL OF MINISTRY is especially designed to help take the load off of pastors and church leaders who are over-burdened with responsibilities including teaching. We specialize in training pastors as well as members of their congregations in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our new school is a blessing to people who do not have seminary or university training, but who desire a unique, hands-on curriculum that will enable them to master the Bible and become proficient in presenting the Word of God anywhere on the globe with confidence and expertise. Classes will be held at the Greater White Rock Baptist Church, located at 2128 Tilson Road in Decatur, GA two Saturdays per month beginning in September 2012. The cost of the school is exceptionally low. The cost is designed to be lower than any school in the nation. Why? Because we are not in the business of making money. We simply want to encourage people to read the Bible and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. The new school is also open for correspondence students. For more information about the new school and how to enroll, please click here and visit my website for the BACK TO BASICS MINISTRY page. Or email me at this address.
Quincey Says He Is Ready Atlanta
My friend Quincey says he is ready to come to the service of anybody in
the Atlanta area who has a tree problem. I met with Quincey earlier
today and here is what he had to say: “Tell Atlanta that I am ready to
rush to their service in case of a storm, fallen trees, or anytime I can
assist them in beautifying their property. Let them know that I am
doing the same thing that my great grandfather, my grandfather, and my
father did before me; i.e. providing quality service wherever there is a
tree that needs to be cut or removed. No tree is too tough for me.
All they have to do is contact me. I was there when they needed me in
Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina; and I am here to help my friends and neighbors in the Atlanta area.” To contact Quincey the Tree Man in Atlanta, click here.

LET'S CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH!
LET’S
CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH!
The celebration of JUNETEENTH began in Galveston, Texas
on June 19, 1865. JUNETEENTH is one of the oldest celebrations
of the end of slavery in the United States. On June
19, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major
General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the
slaves were free. This happened two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. When the Emancipation Proclamation took
effect on January 1, 1863, it had very little impact on the slaves in Texas
because Texas was a very powerful part of the Confederacy. The small number of Union troops in Texas
could not enforce the new Executive
Order. But with the surrender of the Confederacy in April 1865,
the Union army had business to take care of in Texas (more specifically with
the French in Mexico). Herein was the
problem: during the war between the American States, the French emperor
Napoleon III extended his European empire into Mexico, by setting up one of his
relatives, Maximilian I, as emperor of Mexico.
Taking advantage of the fact that the American government was busily
occupied with saving its own integrity and nation, Napoleon III had the
audacity to take over the Mexican government and establish his puppet empire
there. The presence of French troops
overwhelmed the Mexican people, as Maximilian I violated the previously U.S.
enforced Monroe Doctrine. Napoleon III
and his puppet, Maximilian I also had designs to invade and take over the
United States, since they believed that the U.S. had been too weakened by Civil
War. While the U.S. had been totally
involved in civil war, our nation had done very little or nothing to hinder
Maximilian’s progress. But with the end
of the Civil War, the U.S. sent several regiments of black soldiers to guard
the Texas/Mexico border.
Among
the black soldiers (known then as U.S. Colored Troops), I had several ancestors
who fought in the regiments that participated in the Civil War and were later
sent to face down the French in Mexico.
My great great grandfather, Pvt. John Henry Barton, who fought under the
alias of Pvt. John Henry Morgan, was a soldier in Co. F of the 127th
U.S. Colored Troops. Three of his brothers,
my great great uncles, Pvt. James R. Barton (Co. F), Pvt. Thomas E. Barton (Co.
C), and Pvt. George S. Barton, who fought under the alias of Pvt. Francis R. S.
Barton (Co. C) were also in the 127th regiment of the U.S. Colored
Troops. A fourth great great uncle, Sgt.
William A. Barton, who fought under the alias of Sgt. Joseph W. Wilson, was in
Co. G of the 43rd U.S. Colored Troops. Sgt. William A. Barton was a veteran of the
“Battle of the Crater” that was fought at Petersburg. My great great grandfather and his brothers
served under General Gordon Granger’s command and served faithfully until their
mission was accomplished in Texas and they were mustered out of the military
from Texas in September and October, 1865.
With
the arrival of General Gordon Granger
and 2000 troops from the U.S. Colored Troops regiments, the American soldiers were strong enough
to influence and overcome the resistance. Maximilian did not want to tangle with the
black men who were part of the siege of Petersburg and Richmond, and who had
been instrumental in convincing General Robert E. Lee to surrender at
Appomattox. It has been rumored that
General Lee sent a message to General Grant just before he surrendered. The message read as follows: “I’ll whip you
yet if you take those colored soldiers off the field?”
General Granger was given command of the
Department of Texas on June 10, 1865, by Gen. Phil Sheridan, commander of the
Military Division of the Southwest. On June 18, 1865, General Granger and 2,000 federal troops
arrived in Galveston to take possession of the state and enforce the
emancipation of its slaves. Upon his arrival in Galveston on June 19, Granger
officially declared that slavery was dead, setting off joyful displays by Texas
freedmen. Granger stood on the balcony of Galveston’s
now famous “Ashton Villa”, the three-story brick house that had been built by
slave labor and served as headquarters for the Confederate army in Texas. He then read the contents of “General Order
No. 3”:
“The people of Texas are informed
that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United
States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal
rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the
connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and
hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes
and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect
at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there
or elsewhere.”
After hearing the reading of
“General Order No. 3”, the slaves broke out in jubilation. This celebration was the beginning of the
annual celebration known as Juneteenth. Beginning in 1866 and
continuing regularly to the present day, African-Americans treated June 19th
like the Fourth of July and the celebrations contained similar events. In earlier celebrations, Juneteenth included
a prayer service, speakers with inspirational messages, reading of the
emancipation proclamation, stories from former slaves, barbecues, red soda
water, games, rodeos and dances.
Granger
also voided the laws that were passed by the Confederate government. He declared that Confederate soldiers were pardoned
and that all persons having public property, including cotton, should turn it
in to the United States Army. He
declared that all privately owned cotton was to be turned in to the army for
compensation. Granger counseled blacks
against congregating around towns and military posts, remaining unemployed, or
expecting welfare. Instead, he advised
them to remain on the plantations and to sign labor agreements with their
former owners while awaiting further assistance from the newly formed, yet to
be implemented Freedman’s Bureau, which
was later established in the state of Texas.
Even though the news came over two
years after the Emancipation Proclamation was initiated, many blacks responded
with great jubilation at the news of freedom. Others were in a state of shock
and unbelief. After so many years of
having been degraded as slaves, many wondered what they would do with their
new-found freedom. While many stayed
around Galveston to learn of this new employer to employee relationship, quite
a few others left before these offers were completely off the lips of their
former “masters”. Even
with nowhere to go, they felt that leaving the plantation would be their
first grasp of freedom. To go “North” was the logical destination. For many freedmen “North” represented true
freedom. On the other hand the desire to connect with family members in
neighboring states drove some into Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
The celebration of June 19th
was coined "Juneteenth" and grew with more participation from
descendants. Juneteenth is a time for
reassuring one other, for praying and giving thanks to God for freedom, as well
as for gathering with family members and friends. Juneteenth continues to be highly revered in
Texas even to the present day, with many descendants of slaves making the annual pilgrimage back to Galveston to
celebrate on this date. I hope you enjoyed this article. Have a great day...LeRoy Carter.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
I was so blessed to have a wonderful father. My dad passed away last January at the age of 90; but he left a wonderful legacy behind. He and my mom were married for 71 years. Mom is still living and she continues to carry on the family legacy of love and caring for others. When my father first saw my mom in their freshman high school class, my father said to a friend of his, "See that girl over there--that's the girl I am going to marry." Wow! He was serious! And they both took marriage seriously when they united in matrimony three years later. Mom and Dad raised 7 children. I am blessed that all of my siblings are still alive and doing quite well. I give God the praise for my family. My father lettered in three sports in high school; i.e. football, basketball, and baseball. He played football back in the day when they did not have face masks! Dad played basketball back in the day when they shot 2-handed "set shots" rather than jump shots. My father excelled in baseball, where he was captain of the team during his senior year. At the end of his senior year (Class of 1940), he signed to play professional baseball with the Philadelphia Stars in the Negro Professional League. Dad was blessed to play against great ball players like Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson. Dad hit a triple off of Satchel Paige when he first batted against Satch. Satchel ran off the mound to third base and he would not allow my father to continue to home plate for a home run. (You can read about this event in the book I wrote about my dad. The book is entitled MY DAD THE ARTIST).
There was never a day that my father was not at home. He was there for us. Every Monday through Friday he worked faithfully at the Lukens Steel Company, in Coatesville, PA. And every day we sat down at the dinner table (all 9 of us) at 4:30 P.M. when my dad came home from work. He was a great man and he loved my mom very much. She surely loved him too, and she still does. Dad took time out for each of my brothers and sisters and me. On Sundays after church he would pack the 9 of us into his beat-up car or station wagon and take us for a ride somewhere. People would laugh at all of us packed into the car; but we enjoyed the family fellowship. Sometimes Dad would take us all fishing at a nearby lake. We did not have a lot of money; but we had a lot of love. After my dad retired from the steel mill, he enrolled in art school. Thirty years later, just before he passed away, my dad, the great grandson of a slave, had painted over 400 oil paintings depicting African-American history. He was recognized by many people and organizations and he was known as "The Underground Railroad Artist". My father's name is Lee Carter and his artwork is on display at THE ROAD TO FREEDOM MUSEUM in Coatesville, PA.
As we celebrate Fathers' Day, I pray that your father is doing well, if he is still living. I also pray that you will remember the fond things about your father, if he is no longer here. In addition, I pray that God will bless all of the fathers and help each of us to be the best fathers (and grandfathers) that we can be. Fathers are so very important to the family structure and so equally important to the nurturing and upbringing of children. Just in case you are looking for something very special for your father or grandfather, I would like to recommend a great online shopping store. You can get everything you need in just one place. Click here for more details. Happy Father's Day to all.

MY FRIEND QUINCEY
I have a friend named Quincey, whom I admire because of his courage and dedication. Quincey lives in the Atlanta area, but he does not consider Atlanta, Georgia to be his home. You see, Quincey goes wherever he is needed. For example, several years ago, when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Quincey loaded up his truck with equipment and drove to New Orleans, where he joined with many other people in helping to clean up the mess that Katrina left behind. Quincey told me that he has done the same thing in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Quincey has a servant's heart. Most of all, Quincey likes to help people, and there are many people who need help today.
Quincey specializes in tree removal and there is not a tree that he cannot handle. Quincey said that he is a fourth generation tree removal specialist. He inherited his gifts and skills from his great grandfather, his grandfather, and his father. I like Quincey's kindness and his humility. Most of all, I like his willingness to assist people who are in need. If you live in the Atlanta, Georgia area and want to meet Quincey or find out more about him, please click here. We need more people like Quincey.
